VLC media player seems to be the primo alternative of Audio Players.
If You Have It Installed
Easy-Peasy
It seems to support every Listen link format under the sun, including the standard Listen link.
However, whether VLC will launch or not depends on whether it is the default Player for the MIME type.
The Hard Way
From the File Menu, choose Open Network…. Power-users can press
- [Cmd-N] (
⌘N) on macOS - [Ctrl-N] (
⌃N) elsewhere
You’ll get a pop-up dialog. Then right-click on and copy the following Listen link:
http://sleepbot.com/ambience/cgi/listen.m3u
Paste it into the input field, and click OK. The stream will play.
Installation
Download the proper Installer for your OS.
Make it “easy-peasy” would be about allowing the Installer to take ownership of all the filename extensions / MIME types.
